Body Unburdened, a blog by Nadia Neumann is one of my favorite blogs. When she came out with a book, I couldn’t wait to read it. Nadia is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and digs deep when it comes to all things health. She’s also a fellow DIYer when it comes to skin care! Her new book, Glow does not disappoint. With a section full of vital information on how the foods you eat effect your skin, loads of healthy food recipes for beautiful skin and several simple DIY skin care recipes, this book is a must read if you are on the path to achieving beautiful skin and want to combat premature aging!
I learned so much about food from this book. Nadia talks about food intolerance and it’s effect on the body, plus an easy way to identify food your body can’t handle. Also, she talks a lot about inflammation and what foods cause it and how to avoid it. Most of us know free radicals are bad but Nadia really breaks it down as to how they are bad and how they break down collagen. She also lists which foods are rich in antioxidants that combat free radical damage. This is one of those books where you’ll be highlighting and referencing over and over. It’s information that is not really mainstream yet everyone needs to know it in order to properly care for their skin and body as well as age gracefully.
I wanted to introduce you to Nadia and her book plus as soon as I got the book, I knew I had to make her Ultra Moisturizing Lotion. She uses a super simple way to make a creamy, nourishing lotion that takes no time and uses a different method then I do for lotion! This DIY came out lovely and my skin is soaking it up, so let’s get started!
Ultramoisturizing Lotion via Glow by Nadia Neumann:
1 tbsp. shea butter (find it HERE)
1/4 tsp. emulsifying wax (find it HERE)
2 tsp. grapeseed oil (find it HERE)
2 tbsp. aloe vera gel (find it HERE)
1/8 tsp. vegetable glycerin (find it HERE)
8 drops lavender essential oil (find it HERE)
4 drops rosemary essential oil (find it HERE)
4 drops frankincense essential oil (find it HERE)
Directions:
- Fill a medium sized pot 1/2 way full with water and place a glass pyrex measuring cup in the water.
- Turn the stove to to medium heat.
- Add shea butter and emulsifying wax to glass cup and allow to melt.
- Once melted, remove from heat and allow to cool for a few minutes.
- Add aloe, glycerin and essential oils to cooled shea butter and grapeseed oil and stir vigorously until the ingredients combine.
- Lotion will thicken up after several hours.
This recipe makes a little over 1 ounce. Because it does not contain a preservative, I suggest you use it within a week, maybe 2 weeks if stored in the fridge. Find my 2 ounce glass jar HERE.
I am so excited to know I can make lotion so quickly. Making small batches like this takes no time at all! Plus, this lotion smells so good! Lavender, frankincense and rosemary go together really nicely. I had forgotten how well rosemary pairs with lavender. The lotion is light yet a thorough moisturizer for the skin.
I highly recommend reading Glow. Nadia has such a fresh take on health. It’s straightforward and easy to understand! Plus, it’s a beautiful book! I feel very inspired to further tighten up my diet and there are so many food recipes I can’t wait to make! Let’s face it, beauty comes from within in more ways then one. You can’t achieve beautiful skin without addressing what you are putting on your skin and putting in your body. The two go hand in hand.
