DIY Face Oil to Restore Dry, Dull Skin!

Jump to Recipe

DIY Facial OilI find winter to be the hardest time to maintain healthy skin so I’m very happy to switch things up and whip up an incredibly moisturizing face oil that I created two years ago. It’s on my list of favorite DIYs so it’s one I’ve come back to over and over. This very luxurious DIY face oil is perfect for bringing your skin back to life after a long, hard winter and as passed the test of time!

Helichrysum: The Perfect Anti Aging Essential Oil

Helichrysum essential oil has been on my radar for years now and I can honestly say that all though it is a more expensive essential oil, it’s anti aging power if worth the cost. The best attribute of this essential oil is how it can heal damaged skin. Helichrysum is revered for its unparalleled regenerative and protective benefits in skin care as well as its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.

If you suffer from acne or have had a trauma to your skin, helichrysum is hands down the first oil I would buy.

Helichrysum is also known to fade sun spots. It’s gentle enough to apply directly to the skin but would be a great addition in a dark spot roll on-which as you guessed it, is coming very soon.

Helichrysum flowers are sometimes called Immortelle, or the Everlasting Flower, possibly because of the way its essential oil can smooth the appearance of fine lines and uneven skin tone! The word “helichrysum” comes from Latin and Greek roots, meaning “gold spiral.”  Since the flowers of this plant are so small, that mean small yields of essential oil per plant. However, the oil has a rich and complex profile of the naturally occurring constituents neryl acetate, gamma-curcumene, and alpha-pinene, making it a very unique essential oil reserved for only the best DIYs.

Skin Benefits of Helichrysum Essential Oil

  • Skin cell regeneration
  • Known to reduce the appearance of age spots
  • Calming and soothing
  • Sunburn soother
  • Heals acne quickly
  • Antioxidant rich
  • Antimicrobial

DIY Face Oil with Helichrysum

  • 1 TBSP. Baobab Oil (find it HERE)
  • 1/2 TBSP. Moringa Oil (find it HERE)
  • 2 tsp. Marula Oil (find it HERE)
  • 1/2 tsp. Vitamin E Oil (find it HERE)
  • 8 drops Lavender Essential Oil (find it HERE)
  • 8 drops Helichrysum Essential Oil (find it HERE)
  • 4 drops Cypress Essential Oil (find it HERE)

Making a DIY face oil is very simple. It’s nothing more than adding oils in to a bottle.

I use a little funnel like THIS one and a 1 ounce glass treatment pump bottle.

I recommend adding everything except the baobab oil. Once all the ingredients are in, you can use the baobab to top it off at the end. There are 1.6 tablespoons in 1 ounce so it’s very hard to tell you exact proportions. We do not want to overflow this product since the oils are such high quality!

DIY Face Oil Ingredients

Baobab contains more antioxidants then goji berries and even matcha!  It is high in vitamin A, C and E.  I also like that it absorbs quickly.

Moringa oil contains a plant hormone called cytokinin that helps cellular growth as well as protects skin cells.  This oil also contains a good amount of vitamin C which we know helps boost collagen.  It has a high concentration of behenic acid which has been known to be an anti aging tool due to it’s powerful conditioning properties!

Marula oil is uniquely high in omega-9 fatty acid and that means it sinks much deeper into the skin than other oils. The result is more intense, longer-lasting moisture.

I like adding vitamin E oil to most of my facial oils just because it’s a great way to preserve your oil and is a powerful antioxidant. It contains a good amount of vitamin A.

As far as the essential oils-Lavender and Cypress essential oil were added for their anti aging properties as well. Cypress oil has a profound tightening effect and adds a lovely scent when combined with lavender and helichrysum.

Winter DIY Facial Oil

Sometimes it’s good to mix up skin care products. Have you ever noticed how switching to a new shampoo seems to revive your hair? The same thing is true for your skin. While I love my coQ10 Seabuckthorn facial oil (recipe HERE), it’s nice to use different ingredients in different seasons so our skin doesn’t stop responding to the same ingredients.

I’m loving this helichrysum DIY face oil on myself and have been able to keep my skin from getting too dry or getting pesky dry spots. Part of that is because I’ve been religious about oil cleansing and oiling up my face every. single. night. I’ve skimped on that in the past if I’m not wearing makeup during the day. This has made such a huge difference.

**UPDATE-As I mentioned above, this post and recipe is 2 years old. I’m happy to say that I’ve yet to have a dry patch or prolonged overall dryness since this post was written.

What I like about this oil too is that it absorbs quickly. That’s nice when you’re putting on makeup or even layering an eye treatment on at night.

These ingredients come from Mountain Rose Herbs because I believe they have the best quality anti aging oils and are a great company to use. Remember-your product is only as good as the quality of your ingredients! Don’t waste your time!
