Cameron Diaz’s Super Simple Beauty Tip.

Cameron Diaz Morning Water Ritual

A few weeks ago I happened to catch Cameron Diaz on Dr. Oz.  She was promoting her new book The Longevity Book-The Science of Aging, the Biology of Strength, and the Privilege of Time.  Back in Jan. 2014 she was also on Dr. Oz promoting her book, The Body Book: The Law of Hunger, the Science of Strength, and Other Ways to Love Your Amazing Body.  In both episodes, she reveals a daily habit that she does first thing in the morning.  I couldn’t get it out of my mind until I tried it myself.  Now that I’ve adopted it into my daily routine, I had to share it with you!

It’s so simple, yet makes perfect sense.  Cameron chugs a large glass bottle of water (32 ounces) first thing in the morning.  She does it for hydration as well as digestive health.  She drinks it in one fell swoop which basically floods through the body cleansing and hydrating as it goes.

You probably know that while we sleep, our digestive system is working to eliminate waste so that when we wake up in the morning, we should get the urge to poop.  I tried to think of a more elegant word but it is what it is-we all poop and if we don’t, we need to be.  Cameron’s little habit is extremely effective in achieving this bodily function, first thing in the morning.  Not only does it help with elimination, it also hydrates your body.

Another reason to chug water as soon as you wake is because you actually lose water while you sleep.  By breathing in and out all night and never replenishing your body’s water, you are in the deficit when you wake up.  Now for us ladies that like a glass of wine before bed once in a while-think about how alcohol dehydrates, then think how sleeping dehydrates.  Pair that together and you’ve got a problem.  Did you know most headaches are simply because you are dehydrated and your body is desperate for water?

One thing Cameron does before she chugs water is brush her teeth.  Swallowing the bacteria that is in your mouth from the night before is not healthy.  She also adds that she fills her glass bottle up the night before and sits it by her bathroom sink.  That way, once she’s brushed her teeth, the water is ready to go!  I’ve been doing this and highly recommend the bottle in the bathroom.  Once I see that coffee pot-forget everything else!

On a personal note-I love doing this.  As Cameron states, you can feel your nostrils and eyes become moist-Wow.  It’s like instant gratification-If the inside of your nose is wet, think about the benefits your body is experiencing.  She likens it to watering a wilted flower.  Every cell in your body is getting the hydration that it needs.  She also says that she fills up the bottle right after she’s drank it and continues to drink at least 2 more a day.

I will say it is intense.  For a couple of minutes after my stomach feels a bit overwhelmed, but it’s a tiny price to pay for the benefits.

Unfortunately, YouTube pulled the video but you can still see it on Dr. Oz HERE.

I wrestled with sharing such a quick, simple beauty tip but as I continued to implement this habit into my morning routine, I just felt that it was too important not to share.  Something tells me, this habit is a tool that will aid and support our body on many different levels.  Because I was so inspired by Cameron’s tip, I bought The Body Book.  So far, I would highly suggest it.  I’m gaining loads of info. not to mention her view on aging is so refreshing.  I’m tired of fearing aging.  As she so bluntly puts it, “If you aren’t aging, there’s only one alternative, and it’s not a very good one.”

Over the last few years I have entered into a new way of thinking about my body.  I treat my body like a treat my children.  My body relies on me to give it what it needs.  I am in charge of my body and I am its sole source for nourishment.  You must get in touch with your body to know what it needs but to also know when to feed your mind and spirit as well (with a glass of wine, chocolate etc.).  It’s all a delicate balance.  I just love when I hear routines of others that have the same mentality!  I hope you enjoyed hearing about this easy way to love your body!

Anyone else read this book?  Or her new one?  Share below!  I’d love also to hear about your simple healthy habits that nourish your body-maybe it will become a post!

xx, Jenni
