Candy Cane Lip Scrub

Happy Holidays!! Today I’m feeling especially festive and thought we could make a super fun and easy lip scrub out of candy canes!! Not only is this recipe and effective scrub, it tastes good too! This recipe comes from Vital Proteins. You might remember my post on Collagen Peptides. Well, they are my collagen/gelatin source. When Katie from Vital Proteins emailed me this recipe, I just had to try it and share because it’s just too sweet not to!

All you need are candy canes, gelatin and water. I use Vital Proteins Beef Gelatin because it is high quality. Did you know that gelatin is extremely healthy for you? It promotes healthy skin, joint health and strong bones among other benefits. I have been wanting to make homemade gummy candy, marshmallows, and jello with my Vital Protein’s Gelatin. Those will definitely be on my 2017 list of things to accomplish!

Candy Cane Lip Scrub

First off, you need to crush your candy canes. You can either put them in a baggy and crush with the back of a spoon or use a food processor. I have a mini food processor from my baby food making days and it worked perfect. I also think a coffee grinder might work too. You just need to break your candy canes in smaller pieces. Side note: Don’t worry about crushing your candy canes too fine or you won’t get a good scrub.

Once you have crushed your candy canes, add 2 tbsp. of cold water-not hot! Then add 1 scoop of Vital Protein’s Gelatin and stir! If you are using another brand of gelatin, a scoop equals a tbsp. The original recipe called for 1/2 a scoop but I found that the full scoop gave me a thicker consistency.

Let your scrub sit for about 5 minutes so it thickens up then apply to your lips and scrub! It’s that easy! And since we are using all edible ingredients (2 of which are good for you), it’s totally ok if you “accidentally” eat some….
