DIY Matcha Blueberry Mask

Matcha Blueberry DIY MaskI think I can safely say we all want to fade brown spots, smooth bumpiness, hydrate and brighten dull skin, right?  I’ve created a DIY matcha mask that has an insane amount of antioxidants.  In case you don’t know, antioxidants basically fight aging as well as reverse it.  If we were to buy an over the counter mask, there would be no way to get the amount of fresh antioxidants that are in this homemade mask.

Have I peaked your interest?  Good, because this DIY matcha mask is simple and your skin is going to glow!

Skin Benefits of Matcha:

So first, let’s talk about matcha and why you need it on your skin. Matcha is the highest quality green tea available. Made from the nutrient-rich young leaves picked from the tips of shade-grown Camellia sinensis plants, matcha is steamed, stemmed, and de-vined before being ground into fine powder.

Matcha actually has 137 times more antioxidants than brewed green tea!

Did you know it takes 10 cups of regular green tea to equal the amount of antioxidants that are in only 1 cup of matcha tea?  Matcha is rich in chlorophyl which helps to detox the skin.  It is rich in vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, selenium, chromium zinc and magnesium.

Green tea, because of it’s lofty antioxidant level, can protect and heal the skin from UV damage!  Thanks to all those free radical fighting antioxidants, matcha is one powerful anti aging ingredient!

Whether you ingest it or apply it topically, you will reap immense benefits!

I highly recommend Mountain Rose Herb’s matcha tea.  It’s important to find a safe source for green tea and matcha due to the amount of pesticides that are typically sprayed on green tea crops.  Plus, I can’t resist my daily Matcha latte.  I promise you won’t waste a jar of matcha!

One more fun matcha DIY is my Matcha Vanilla Lip Balm! Absolutely one of my favorite lip balm recipes!

Skin Benefits of Yogurt:

The next skin enhancing ingredients I like to add is yogurt.  Yogurt is one of my favorite ingredients to grab when my skin is looking dull.  Probiotics on the skin are a real thing.

Yogurt can bring balance to your skin just as it can your gut!

Yogurt also contains a good amount of zinc which when used topically, is helpful when needing to reduce the appearance of scars and sun/age spots.

Lactic acid helps rid your skin of dead skin cells while the milk nourishes.

Skin Benefits of Blueberries:

Last but not least, I like to add blueberries.

Blueberries in particular have a load of antioxidants and are packed with vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin E.  Vitamin A can reduce wrinkles, dark spots and blotchy skin. Vitamin C helps neutralize free radicals and brightens the skin.  Vitamin E helps minimize fine lines.

Blueberries increase circulation which can help accelerate healing and brighten.  They also can reduce redness and puffiness due to inflammation.

**I don’t take the time to blend my blueberries.  This would be ideal in order to reap the benefits of the whole blueberry but like most of us, I’m usually in a rush and find that crushing the blueberries with my spoon still delivers amazing results!  However, if I were to blend the blueberries, I would use a baby food food processor like THIS one.**

I’ve been doing a lot of “kitchen” DIY masks lately and have several more to share that I’ve felt made a difference in my skin!  I just love the concept of using pantry items on your skin that actually work!  Anyone have a mask they’d like to share??!!

xx, Jenni
