DIY Puffy Eye Serum

Jump to Recipe

DIY Eye Roll On for Puffy EyesWe’ve recently talked about dark under eye circles and we made an easy dark circle eye serum. Now it’s time to tackle under eye bags.  Many of us, myself included have under eye bags.  There are many causes for under eye bags but luckily there are also several natural remedies.  One of which is a simple DIY eye serum I’ll share in this post that can be applied as often as needed to help drain and minimize under eye puffiness! This DIY Puffy Eye Serum is not only easy to make, it’s affordable too!

I address 6 different remedies to de-puff the under eyes fast but I also wanted to give you a super easy DIY that you can keep in your bag or bathroom counter (or skin care fridge would be great) to quickly roll on for a quick de-inflammation tool!

Causes of Under Eye Bags:

  • Allergies/Sinus Infections
  • Lack of sleep
  • Too much sleep
  • Dehydration
  • Fluid retention due to too much salt
  • Fluid retention due to hormones
  • Fluid retention due to weather changes
  • Heredity
  • Aging=Loss of elasticity

Simple, Natural Remedies for Puffy Eyes:

  • Consume food rich in vitamins A, C and E
  • Sleep on 2 pillows while sleeping
  • Use ice or cold spoons to reduce swelling
  • Place cucumber slices over eyes
  • Place potato slices over eyes
  • Apply tea bags (with caffeine) over eyes
  • Apply Aloe Vera-It contains B1, B3, B6, C vitamins and 18 amino acids!
  • Apply pressure with your fingertips to the puffy area to encourage drainage
  • Reduce Salt In-take (unless it’s Pink Himalayan salt!)
  • Go to bed early!
  • Drink more water to encourage the release of water retention
  • Avoid Alcohol-Hello dehydration!
  • Caffeine based skin care.

It’s extremely helpful and important to address the cause of your puffy eyes.  I created this DIY in order to make de-puffing a bit easier.  I personally always keep in mind that in the AM I need to wash my face with cold water.  I also am constantly drinking more water as well as getting at least 8 hours of sleep.

DIY Eye Serum Ingredients:

Some things I don’t do are slicing cucumbers or potatoes in order to reap their anti-inflammatory benefits simply because I don’t have the time.  When I came across a cucumber hydrosol I got really excited! However, I could only find it from Mountain Rose Herbs. If you’re wanting fast shipping, you could just use rose water which is easily found on Amazon.

I also keep reading over and over how beneficial witch hazel (also known as “astringent” which means tightening!) is for the under eye area.  And-there is actually such a thing as cucumber witch hazel!!!

I add a bit of glycerin in order to create a slip so that the roller bottle will work. Glycerin has an uncanny way of making the skin dewy and moisturized. I love using it in my DIY sheet mask recipes!

Cypress essential oil is crazy good for tightening the skin.  That’s why I add it to most of my recipes!  Chamomile is gentle and a powerful anti inflammatory and Frankincense has a tightening effect on skin.  All 3 work to help drain the under eye area.

This DIY is intended to be used mainly in the morning.  For an added boost, you can keep it in the fridge to also get the benefits cold has on swollen eyes!  If allergies are raging-I’ll be carrying this in my bag for all day use!

This recipe is one you’re going to have to eye ball.  It doesn’t matter what size roll-on you get, it’s more about proportions.  I created this handy pic below to show the proportions of each ingredient however, I will tell you, my roll-on bottle is 8.5 ml and I did add a specific amount of essential oils.

I urge you to use quality ingredients when making a serum.  The better quality ingredients equals better results!  I linked everything I personally used for this DIY.

You’re going to need to shake your roll-on each time you use it.  The glycerin tends to separate as do the essential oils.  If you’re wondering about a preservative, don’t worry.  The hydrosol, glycerin and witch hazel all have their own preservatives and the essential oils help to further ward off bacteria or mold.

This is a really easy DIY eye serum and has proven super helpful for me and I’m thinking it’s just in time for spring allergies!  I end up looking like the elephant man in the spring due to sinus issues so this is going to help!!  If you have any tips you use to de-puff your eyes, leave it in the comments-I’d love the hear!

xx, Jenni
