Sea Buckthorn Oil is one of the most power packed anti aging oils you can find. Sea Buckthorn Oil skin benefits include deep hydration, protection and correction of UV exposure, accelerated cell regeneration and due to a hardy boost of antioxidants-lots of anti aging action.
Sea Buckthorn contains 12x more vitamin C than an orange! That’s a lot of vitamin C and we know all about the benefits of vitamin C thanks to my DIY Vitamin C Serum post as well as my DIY Vitamin C Mask post. In a nutshell, vitamin C brightens skin, smooths skin and encourages the skin to produce more collagen and elastin.
I believe in sea buckthorn oil so much that it is a staple in my Etsy shop. It is in my coQ10 Sea Buckthorn facial oil as well as my Anti Wrinkle Eye Stick.

What is Sea Buckthorn Oil?
Sea Buckthorn is a shrub that produces tomato-like berries. It typically grows in Asia and eastern Europe. It’s incredible power not only comes from the berries-the leaves, thorns and bark also contain skin loving properties! It contains 190 nutrients and phytonutrients!!
Interesting fact-Genghis Khan credits sea buckthorn for what made his army so strong. Another neat fact is that China designated sea buckthorn juice as their official drink of their Olympic athletes in 1988 and referred to it as liquid gold.
When it comes to skin care, many studies have been done proving the incredible benefits of applying it topically.
One study in particular had women use a sea buckthorn based skin care line for 1 month. They found that 100% saw increased hydration. 79% saw a decrease in age and sun spots. 87% saw a reduction in fine lines and 83% saw reduced pores. 90% of women said their skin was smoother, more even and radiant. 100% of women reported that their skin was softer and more supple after 1 month. Pretty good results, I’d say!
Several test-tube and animal studies have shown that sea buckthorn helps to stimulate skin regeneration and skin healing. It can be a fantastic tool in healing wounds. Try my Sea Buckthorn Balm to easily apply to wounds.
More animal studies reveal that sea buckthorn oil also helps reduce inflammation and also protects the skin against sun damage.

How to Use Sea Buckthorn Oil:
This oil can be applied neat, or straight to skin conditions in need of healing. For daily skin care, it is best to add it to a facial oil. It has a bright orange color to it and will give you the appearance of a fake tan-think Lindsay Lohan circa 2005. Yeah, not good.
Sea Buckthorn oil should make up about 1/4 of your facial oil. You might want to slowly add it in order to make sure you don’t end up too orange.
I will warn you that it will rub off on your clothes, pillow cases and sheets even with a tiny amount in your facial oil. It does not stain, however. It washes out very easily.
It is a fantastic addition to any DIY face oil or serum and can also be added to a balm for deep hydration and healing.
Where to find the BEST Sea Buckthorn Oil:
Mountain Rose Herb is where I get many of my oils. They cold press their sea buckthorn oil which is absolutely the best way to extract this oil without losing it’s many amazing properties. A 2 ounce bottle is around $30 and this is all you need to make an incredibly effective facial oil! It might seem expensive but you can only use a limited amount per DIY due to how orange it is.
I have tried a couple other brands on Amazon and have been hugely disappointed in the quality. They have not compared to MRH.
As you can see, sea buckthorn oil is an incredible oil full of vitamins, antioxidants and deeply hydrating omegas. You can’t go wrong with sea buckthorn oil!
