Peppermint Essential Oil and PMS….

Peppermint Essential Oil & PMSLet’s face it, most of us suffer from PMS on a monthly basis….  Whether it be cramps, headaches, brain fog, or depression, PMS is a total bummer.  Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a magic potion to relieve the annoying symptoms your period can bring on?  Well, there just might be!

Peppermint oil is an amazing oil.  If you are new to oils, this oil is a basic oil you should start with.

I suffer from cramps, headaches, bloat and crazy brain fog.  If there’s ever a week were you are thinking that my posts don’t quite work-now you’ll know why!  Peppermint is so helpful helping all 4 of these symptoms.  If it weren’t for my little bottle of peppermint, I would be taking Motrin for the whole duration of my period.  I love to use essential oils to avoid synthetic drugs.  Because essential oils work on a cellular level, your body responds more efficiently.

How to Use Peppermint Essential Oil:

Peppermint oil can be used topically (neat=undiluted). If it is too “cold” for your skin, add a few drops of a carrier oil.

I apply peppermint oil to my stomach for pain relief for cramps.  I experience relief almost immediately!  It seriously is a life saver.  For headaches, I apply a couple of drops to my temples and my neck.  Beware, peppermint on your temples has a tendency to burn your eyes so if you can lay down with your eyes closed for a few minutes after application, I suggest you do.

For bad breath, indigestion, gas and nausea, a drop in your water will work wonders.  I have also applied peppermint oil to the feet and directly to the stomach to relieve vomiting and nausea.

For brain fog and lack of concentration, diffusing is a great way to get a quick pick me up.  You can also put a few drops in your hands and inhale for a minute.

For allergies and congestion-a homemade vapor rub is great to apply to the nose, or simply inhaling the oil can help clear your sinuses.

For body and muscle aches, apply a few drop directly to the pain.

I use peppermint oil for fevers as well.  If my daughter’s fevers are rising a bit to high for my liking, I apply peppermint to their feet and foreheads.  You will see a dip in their temp. immediately.

During the heat of the summer months, it may be helpful to mix a few drops of peppermint with distilled water and place in a small squirt bottle.  You will be amazed at how helpful peppermint can be in oppressive heat.  I keep a bottle in my purse for after the gym!

Your skin will love peppermint oil as well-I love it in a toner for brightening skin.  Not only does peppermint oil wake up your brain, it also wakes up your skin!
