EASY DIY Goat’s Milk Bar Soap

Easy DIY Goat's Milk SoapWith Mother’s Day right around the corner I thought this DIY would be the perfect gift to make for moms!  This is such a quick and easy DIY and a perfect project to get kids involved in!  It’s as simple as melting the soap base and pouring in a mold!  Add essential oils and dried flowers, petals and herbs to create a personal, beautiful bar of soap!

I have attempted to make soap from scratch in the past.  You know those recipes on Pinterest that guarantee soap making is so easy?   In fact you can do it right in your crock pot?  Yeah, either I’m soap challenged or it’s not that easy.  In fact, I have spots on my wood floors from where I splashed lye on the floor and had no soap to show for it!

I found THIS organic, goat’s milk soap base and am happy to report these soaps lather so nicely and are very moisturizing-no lye or crock pot needed!  They take essential oils well and I found you don’t have to add much to have a very nice smelling soap!

What You’ll Need:

  • Soap base (find it HERE)
  • Soap molds (find it HERE)
  • Essential oils (find it HERE)
  • Dried Flowers, Petals & Herbs
  • Medium sized pot
  • Glass Pyrex bowl with a spout (find it HERE)

Directions:

  1. Fill a medium sized pot 1/2 way full with water and place your glass pyrex bowl in the pot.
  2. Turn stove top to medium heat.
  3. Remove soap base from packaging and cut in 2 inch slices.
  4. Add slices to your glass bowl.
  5. Allow soap to melt completely.
  6. While soap is melting, prepare your molds by putting herbs, petals and flowers in each mold.
  7. Remove soap from heat and add essential oils.
  8. Pour into your molds.
  9. Add a few more petals to the top of your soap before they cool begin to harden.
  10. After about 5 hours, you can pop your soap out of the molds.
  11. Allow soap to cure for 24-48 hours before using.

If you would like to skip adding the petals, you can use a loaf pan lined with wax paper to pour your soap into.  Once the soap has cured, lift the soap out and cut.  You can still add essential oils before you pour.  You can also add food coloring to tint your soap but I would go sparingly because food coloring isn’t the most natural option!

This is such a fun, rewarding and EASY DIY and they make such great gifts!  Plus, they are so easily customized.  Add a soap dish and a pretty gift sack and Mother’s Day is conquered!

Update: After a few weeks, the flowers I added to the soap turned brown.  Boo.  I have since learned that it is better to use ONLY dried herbs. Find dried herbs HERE.
