Vegan coQ10 & Squalane Eye and Lip Treatment

DIY coQ10 Squalane lip and eye balm

I’m really excited about this Vegan coQ10 & Squalane Eye and Lip Treatment recipe!  First of all, it’s multi purpose.  Two birds with one stone is always a good idea!  Plus, it incorporates a few new ingredients that I’ve just recently discovered that work incredibly well together.  Last, this blend of essential oils is so good for repairing and protecting the delicate skin around the eyes and lips.

This is a simple DIY that takes minutes to make.  You can use it throughout the day or just in the morning or evening.  It’s light and absorbs easily.  Are you ready to find out why it’s an amazing new DIY you need to make?!

Vegan Waxes:

I get a lot of requests for vegan DIY skin care.  I enjoy coming up with ways to make products vegan but until recently, I hadn’t explored Carnuaba Wax.  Carnuaba wax comes from the Brazillian tree. It is a lot like beeswax but has a bit of a grainy consistency and is harder when used in a balm/salve.  I found that was also the case for Candelilla wax.  It’s a very small price to pay if you are vegan and want to create your own products.  Carnuaba wax is great for lip glosses and balms because it has a slightly glossy finish.  It does have a higher melting point then beeswax at 185F so it is wise to melt your wax before adding other butters and oils that need to be melted so you don’t damage the healing/anti aging properties of the other ingredients.

DIY Eye Treatment Ingredients:

We talked more about squalane HERE, not to be confused with squalene which is inhumanely derived from shark liver.  Squalane is in the oil family but feels lighter and absorbs more easily into the skin.  It’s actually a lovely moisturizer or serum on it’s own due to it’s calming, healing and antibacterial properties.  Plus, it’s non-comedogenic which means it won’t clog pores.  If you recall, I made THIS squalane serum a while back.

I love using coQ10.  It’s a wonderful anti aging tool and I posted about it in depth HERE.  What I love about coQ10 is that it goes a long way when it comes to repairing the skin.  It’s also helpful to encourage collagen and elastin production.  It’s great for dry skin types but as far as I know, has no adverse effects on oily skin types.  coQ10 is something our bodies naturally produce until about the age of 25 and like everything else pertaining to anti aging, our body slows way down in producing it.

Vitamin E reduces inflammation.  It also is a powerful antioxidant that strengthens the capillary walls and helps moisturize the skin as well as increasing elasticity.  Did you know that vitamin E is helpful when it comes to keeping your other ingredients from going rancid?  It’s shouldn’t be considered a preservative when used in water based products but it’s nice to add it to oil based serums and facial oils.

Frankincense is one of my top anti aging oils due to it’s ability to tighten the skin.  It’s a great ingredient in toners because it helps reduce the appearance of pores as well as protect the skin cells.  It actually slows the signs of aging.  Geranium helps reduce the signs of aging by tightening the skin.  It also accelerates the healing process.  Carrot seed is a skin rejuvenator.  It’s rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin E and antioxidants which are all anti aging powerhouses.  I have reason to believe carrot seed oil helps greatly with protecting the skin against aging due to too much sun.
