DIY Hand & Foot Balm-Relieve Dry Hand Sanitizer Hands!

DIY Hand & Heal Balm

Earlier this week I posted THIS recipe for a very strong hand sanitizer. Since we’re all using a load of hand sanitizer these days, I’m guessing many of us have hands that are suffering. I thought it would be fitting to post a DIY Hand & Foot Balm recipe that is going to relieve dry, cracking hands naturally!

You don’t need a lotion to effectively moisturize the hands. In fact, lotions are full of water so what we’re about to make is way more effective because it doesn’t contain even a drop. A balm is a combination of oil based ingredients that are melted with beeswax to become a solid but pliable product. This balm contains nourishing oils, butters and waxes that will quench your dry skin, leaving it soft and smooth!

This nourishing balm does not have to be limited to the hands. It can be used anywhere on the body! I’m using mine on my heels in particular. I’ve even been using it on my legs after shaving to combat all the ashiness from winter.

DIY Hand & Foot Balm

  • 3 TBSP. Sweet Almond Oil (find it HERE)
  • 2 TBSP. Coconut Oil (find it HERE)
  • 2 TBSP. Shea Butter (find it HERE)
  • 1/2 TBSP. Beeswax (find it HERE)
  • 20 drops Lavender Essential Oil (find it HERE)

Directions:

  1. Fill a medium sized pot 1/2 way full with water and place on the stove on medium heat.
  2. Inside the post, place a glass Pyrex measuring cup.
  3. Add butter, beeswax and oil (minus essential oils) to the glass cup and allow to thoroughly melt.
  4. Remove from heat and add essential oils.
  5. Place in the fridge to allow the balm to cool and harden.

This recipe makes 4 ounces. Find a 4 ounce jar HERE.

Using butters can cause balms to eventually get grainy. It’s an easy fix-you just need to melt it again but by putting the balm in the fridge it cools faster and this helps the balm not get grainy at all. Go HERE for more info. on combatting grainy balms.

I used very easy, common to find ingredients but you could use whichever oils and butters you have on hand as long as you keep the same proportions! I get all my ingredients from Mountain Rose Herbs. Remember, your DIY is only as effective and safe as the ingredients you choose.
