At-Home Summer Recovery Spa Day…

3 summer pantry recipes for your skin and hair

I don’t know about you all, but summer has wrecked my hair and skin!  A beach vacation, a chlorine filled pool, 100 degree weather and too much sunblock has just left my hair and skin lifeless and dry.  It’s time for an at-home spa day asap!

Forget expensive spa treatments, we can do this at home for way less and reap just as amazing results!!  Plus, I’m saving up for a few fall pieces for my wardrobe that are probably going to break the budget, right?!

Spa Treatment #1:  Honey/Olive Oil Hair Mask

3 summer DIYs

Remember those VO5 Hot Oil Treatments?  I used to do those as a kid because I always had perms that fried my hair-I’m serious!   Well, who knows how many chemicals those little tubes had, but I’ve got an easy treatment for dry, heat damaged hair.  Most likely you have all these ingredients in your kitchen right now!  This treatment will restore and revitalize your hair.  Honey locks in moisture while olive oil strengthens.  The richness of an egg yolk will strengthen the hair and help replenish the keratin protein bonds that UV rays attack.

1/4 cup Raw Honey (find it HERE)

1 TBSP. Olive Oil (find it HERE)

1 egg yolk

Directions:

  1. Whip all ingredients together.
  2. Apply to ends of the hair being sure to really work it in with your fingers.
  3. Tye hair back in a bun.
  4. OPTIONAL-Applying heat can help the hair absorb the oils and honey better.  You can use a shower cap and blow dryer for a hot treatment!
  5. Leave on for 20 minutes.
  6. Shampoo out using luke warm water.  This will help seal in the shine.

**This treatment is great as a monthly treatment.

Spa Treatment #2:  Rosemary/Lavender/Lemon Salt Scrub

Salt Scrub DIY

A while back I did a post on the benefits of salt bath soaks.  You can read more about the amazing power of Epsom Salt for detoxing the body HERE.  I just found this little nugget of info. via Salt Works that I have to share….

The sulfates in Epsom salt help flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances. Your skin is a highly porous membrane and adding the right minerals to your bathwater triggers a process called reverse osmosis, which actually pulls salt out of your body, and harmful toxins along with it. For a detoxifying bath, at least once weekly add two cups of our Ultra Epsom Salt to the water in a bathtub and soak for 10 minutes.

Salt scrubs are easy to make and so healthy for the body.  Anything that pulls out water and toxins is a good thing, right?!

Heat can strip the skin of moisture, leaving skin flaky and dull.  A good scrub mixed with a antioxidant rich oil is just what your skin needs to restore soft supple skin.

1/4 cup Epsom salt (find it HERE)

2 tbsp. Olive Oil (find it HERE)

10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil (find it HERE)

5 drops Lavender Essential Oil (find it HERE)

5 drops Lemon Essential Oil (find it HERE)

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl and hop in the shower!
  2. Gently scrub your body after washing.
  3. Pat dry, leaving the oils on the skin.

Not only will you smell great, you will be glowing as well!

Adding these 3 essential oils not only smells amazing, but they will help detox the skin as well as rev up circulation.  Great for tired and dull skin.

Spa Treatment #3: Yogurt Honey Mask

Yogurt is not just for eating-it can be a highly effective skin treatment.  It contains high amounts of lactic acid which helps to smooth and exfoliate.  The fats yogurt contains will help rejuvenate the skin.  Exfoliation + Rejuvenation = Glowing Skin!

1 TBSP Plain Organic Yogurt (greek yogurt works great)

1 TBSP. Raw Honey (find it HERE)

Directions:

  1. Apply to clean skin and let sit for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Rinse with cool water.
  3. Follow up with a toner and moisturizer.

Directions:

Let it set for 10-15 minutes and rinse well with warm water.

Extra Tips to make your Spa Day Perfect!

>>CUCUMBERS-Seriously a luxurious yet easy treatment for the eyes.  De-puff and hydrate by just one thin slice on each eye!  Apply while your yogurt/honey mask sets!

>>Steaming-I love steaming my skin.  I have a steamer from my facial days and actually they are not as expensive as you might think!   Mine gets lots of use in the winter when the air is so dry.  Steaming softens dead skin making it easy to exfoliate.  It also opens pores and softens dirt, blackheads and blemishes making them easy to extract.

>>Lavender, Lavender, Lavender.  Diffuse it, enhale it, apply it.  It is powerful when it comes to relaxing the mind.

>>Light candles-There’s something relaxing about a flame, a small one that is….

>>Brew some herbal tea.  Chamomile is so relaxing.

There you have it, 3 spa treatments that you can do at home to replenish your glow!  I hope you all find the time to pamper yourself a bit!  Doing it yourself can be just as relaxing and effective as going to a spa, when it’s done right!

xx, Jenni
