I’ve been researching the benefits of different oils lately and found a few oils that were just screaming to be in a hair oil recipe! It was perfect because I actually needed a hair oil since I have long hair that tends to get really dry in the summer. I’ve been enjoying this DIY Repairing Hair Oil and Color Protector for quite sometime now and am really happy with it so today I’m sharing! Plus I made a label for you as well!
I typically shy away from oils in my hair because while I have dry ends, I also have an oily scalp. Applying oils to even the ends of my hair can sometimes make the upper parts of my hair oilier quicker. I believe that when oil is applied to the hair, it travels. However, this new hair oil doesn’t do that. It sticks to where I apply it giving my hair much needed nourishment! I do think that drier hair types will be able to use this oil all over the hair and scalp if needed. A little oil can go a long way when needed to tame frizz, smooth hair and hydrate!!
Camelina oil is a good choice for a hair oil because is a powerhouse of nutrition. It also helps protect the hair follicles and due to it’s high antioxidant content, it can protect the hair from free radical damage. I chose hazelnut oil because it is said to help protect and prolong the life of your hair color! This is so needed during the summer where salt water, pool water and sun damage is at an all time high, wreaking havoc on your hair color!! Plus, it is full of proteins and vitamins to help strengthen and repair hair. I chose Argan oil because it is so rich. Your hair will literally soak it in. It has also been known to help regrow hair.
I added lavender and rosemary essential oil to my hair oil because I love the two scents together. Rosemary is great for encouraging blood flow if you are applying this hair oil to the scalp. Plus they both smell clean and bright!
There are several uses for this hair oil. Because I included hair growth friendly oils, you can use this on your scalp. Camelina oil is great for dandruff. All the oils will greatly nourish your scalp and help achieve healthy hair follicles. You can also use this oil as a hot oil treatment. I like to coat my hair with it, tie it up in a bun when I am outside watching the girls swim or gardening. You could apply it, put on a shower cap and hop in a warm bath or shower as well. The heat will help open the hair follicle while the oil can penetrate. The most common way to use a hair oil is to smooth frizzy, dry hair. Apply to frizz or just to dry ends to smooth and soften the hair. Don’t use too much-this recipe contains only highly nourishing oils so you’ll just be wasting the product if you pile it on!
You will need a 2 ounce glass pump bottle or dropper bottle for this recipe.
DIY Repairing Hair Oil and Color Protector
- 1 TBSP. Camelina Oil (find it HERE)
- 2 TBSP. Hazelnut Oil (find it HERE)
- 1 TBSP. Argan Oil (find it HERE)
- 5 drops Lavender Essential Oil (find it HERE)
- 4 drops Rosemary Essential Oil (find it HERE)
Directions:
- Using a small funnel, add all ingredients to your glass bottle.
- Shake well.
A hair oil is as easy to make as a facial oil. It literally takes a minute to mix the oils so that you can use it immediately!
Next up-because I’ve had many requests, I will formulate a scalp oil for hair loss and re-growth! I’ve learned so much about different oils that have been proven to help with this issue so I’m excited to make a DIY to help naturally re-grow and thicken hair! Stay tuned for that!
