 DIY Hair Smoothing Serum

Frizzy, fly away hair is not only unsightly, it’s also a sign that hair is unhealthy.  Whether it’s due to breakage, new growth, coloring, heat tools or you just naturally have dry hair, hydrating the hair naturally is not only easy-it will improve the look damaged hair instantly!

I created this DIY hair serum for those of us that have an oily scalp but dry ends that need a little extra attention. I also created it for those of us that have breakage and fly aways.

Causes of Frizzy Hair:

  • Humid Weather
  • Dry Hair
  • Course Hair Texture
  • Breakage
  • New Growth
  • Chemically Treated Hair
  • Washing Hair too Often

If you have dry scalp and dry hair, I would recommend checking out my leave in hair conditioner instead. It will give your hair a huge rejuvenating boost. I tend to use my hair conditioner DIY on the day of shampooing because it can be intense and leave me feeling a bit oily.

Often times putting oil on the hair can result in oily scalp since oil seems to travel up the hair shaft. Using oils on the ends can offer a bit more moisturizing but when you’re trying to stretch out the time in between shampoos, using this DIY hair smoothing serum really helps to not only tame frizzies but also helps to add hydration without risk of becoming to oily.

DIY Hair Serum Ingredients:

This DIY hair serum contains mostly aloe vera gel which helps detangle and adds shine to the hair. I learned how well aloe vera gel works when I created a DIY detanlger to help brush through my daughter’s fine but thick hair.

You can learn all the incredible benefits of aloe vera in THIS post.

Argan oil is one of my favorite oils to use on the hair. There’s something about it that is so luxurious! Not only does it add moisture, it adds shine and does a fantastic job at taming those pesky fly-aways!

It’s been called “liquid gold” and it’s packed with fatty acids and powerful antioxidants, such as vitamin E, that have been shown to have benefits for your scalp and hair.

I also added a small amount of glycerin which helps to smooth. Glycerin is a humectant which means that it attracts and locks in water, much like honey but not as sticky!

A blend of rosemary and lavender essential oils not only smell good but are great for the scalp!

Rosemary essential oil will actually help rev up circulation and has been helpful in stimulating hair growth. In fact, I add it to my DIY eyebrow growth serum.

Lavender is also effective at encouraging hair growth. One study showed that lavender deepened and increased the number of hair follicles which reduces hair fall out and encourages new growth.

DIY Hair Smoothing Serum

  • 1 tsp. Vegetable Glycerin (find it HERE)
  • 1 tsp. Argan Oil (find it HERE)
  • 10 drops Rosemary Essential Oil (find it HERE)
  • 10 drops Lavender Essential Oil (find it HERE)
  • Top off with Aloe Vera Gel (find it HERE)

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients to a 2 oz. glass bottle.
  2. I like THIS one because it has a treatment pump, but you can also use a dropper bottle like THIS.

To Use:

  1. Before each use, shake well.
  2. Use a quarter size of product and apply to dry hair.
  3. Because this hair serum is light, you can reapply as often as needed.
  4. You can also apply this serum after shampooing, to wet hair.

**Because this serum is light, it can be used before and/or after using a straightener or curling iron.

DIY Hair Smoothing Serum

Since I added highlights to my hair, I’ve been using a DIY hair oil and color protector daily since my hair is damaged but I’ve been using this new recipe on both my daughter’s hair to help combat damage and smooth.

When kids start to brush their own hair they tend to rip through it as if hair is unbreakable! Kinda like all their nappy haired dolls-lol! This serum works great for smoothing baby hairs when wearing ponytails!

May I suggest using my easy DIY clarifying shampoo to detox your hair. This is an easy method to remove products, hard water build up and dirt and will leave your hair shiny and bouncy!

An apple cider vinegar hair spritzer is an easy DIY (doesn’t leave a stink, I promise) and adds lots of extra shine!  Both these recipes are super quick and easy and my hair can’t live without them!
