Beauty Balm Glow Stick-Glow from the Inside and Out!

I wanted to make a product that could be swiped over the cheekbones, down the nose and maybe a dab on the chin for extra nourishment plus I wanted it to have a subtle glow. I love a good highlighter on the cheekbones and down the bridge of the nose but wearing a powder everyday to get that glowy look could be a little harsh on the skin. I created this Beauty Balm Glow Stick so we could enjoy the benefits of a balm as well as a achieve a visual glow!

THIS highlighter balm I posted a while ago and really like it but I didn’t intend that one to have many benefits for the skin. The recipe today is not only extremely beneficial for the skin, it also has mica in it which gives it the skin a barely noticeable glow. It can be worn with or without other makeup.

This DIY is inspired by THIS product from TULA. This really isn’t a DIY or BUY because the TULA product is pretty complicated since it contains water based ingredients mixed with oils which makes it a bacteria nightmare without a strong preservative. Plus, I’m not sure how to mix water and oil and come out with a balm.

This product includes Moringa oil for several reasons. First, it contains a plant hormone called cytokinin that helps cellular growth as well as protects skin cells.  Also, this oil also contains a good amount of vitamin C which we know helps boost collagen.  It has a high concentration of behenic acid which has been known to be an anti aging tool due to it’s powerful conditioning properties!  Moringa oil (you may have noticed) has become one of my favorite oils lately!

Jojoba Oil actually mimics the skin’s own sebum, helping it to producing less oil. It’s actually considered a wax rather then an oil but I find it to be one of my favorite oils as well to add to products.

I added Mango butter for added richness. It is a favorite ingredient of mine because it is so versatile. It is non comedogenic (won’t clog pores) and absorbs extremely fast. It’s also high in vitamins A and C and is extremely moisturizing.

Beeswax is what tightens the oils to form a balm consistency and mica gives the shimmery look of the balm.

Let’s get to the recipe!

Beauty Balm Glow Stick

  • 1 tsp. Moringa Oil (find it HERE)
  • 1 tsp. Jojoba Oil (find it HERE)
  • 2 tsp. Mango Butter (find it HERE)
  • 1 TBSP. Beeswax (find it HERE)
  • 1 TBSP. Mica Powder (find it HERE)

Directions:

  1. Create a double boiler by filling a medium sized pot half way full with water.
  2. Place a glass Pyrex measuring cup in the water of the pot.
  3. Place on the stove top and turn heat to medium.
  4. Add all the ingredients into the glass measuring cup.
  5. Allow the ingredients to thorough melt.
  6. Pour into a 1 ounce lip balm tube like THIS or THIS or 2 1/2 ounce tubes like THIS.

Tips & Hints:

  • The mica naturally sinks to the bottom of the tube. This is why I’ve added quite a bit. I’ve found that this DIY leaves a subtle glow which is what I prefer anyway. Otherwise, if the mica was evenly distributed, your glow would be very over the top.
  • 1 TBSP. of beeswax makes this roll on very firm. Be sure to use exactly 1 tbsp. or even a skimpy 1 tbsp. Do not heap the beeswax in the tablespoon. This balm needs to glide easily in order to not stretch the skin.
  • I used the 1/2 ounce lip balm tubes in order to make 2 glow sticks because those were the tubes I had. Feel free to use any size lip balm tubes and make however many you want. This recipe makes 1 ounce.
  • You can use this balm morning and night.
  • I haven’t used my glow stick on top of makeup but if your makeup is not super thick, I think it would work great! Instead of gliding it, you might apply it to your fingertips and press it into your skin in order to not disturb your base.

I like using this balm on days I don’t wear makeup. It gives a subtle healthy radiance and delivers I punch of hydration as well! It gives an instant glow while working deep within the skin to smooth fine lines and wrinkles!

They even hold up even in the dish washer! Read THIS post for detailed instructions on how to use Sticker You. If you’d rather print them yourself (and can get you printer alignment right, because I can’t!) simply save the label picture and upload to Avery.com. You’ll have to determine which labels you’ll need according to the container you choose.
