DIY Sunburn Relief Spray

DIY Sun Burn Relief SpritzerI have a confession to make-I have a sunburn.  And it’s bad.  My girls were begging to go swimming and I had just been at the gym so a dip sounded so good.  What was supposed to be 20 minutes, turned into an hour with no sunblock, no umbrella!  I should have known better!!  So, I’m bright pink right now!   To try to make it up to my skin, I immediately made a DIY sunburn relief spray that would sooth, tone the hotness down and replenish.

This is an easy recipe, pretty obvious, but so effective!   Luckily I had everything I needed and experienced relief fast.  So, if you find yourself like me, and get a little bit too much sun, have this spritzer ready to go, it’ll save your skin!

First, let me share what I did after showering and realizing just how burnt I was.  I immediately grabbed the coconut oil and lavender.  I scooped out about 2 tbsp.-1/4 cup of coconut oil, added about 20 drops of lavender oil and massaged into my burnt skin.  Once it soaked in, I reapplied.  I will do this once daily until the burn subsides.  Next, I used my new spritzer and re applied this as often as I had the chance.

DIY Sunburn Relief Spray Ingredients:

Aloe Vera is an obvious choice for the base of this recipe, but it’s popular for a sunburn for good reason.   Aloe is proven to actually regenerate skin by stimulating cellular metabolism.  Aloe contains anti-oxidants, vitamins A and C and the minerals copper, selenium, and magnesium; and zinc.  It’s extremely healing and soothing.  I suggest you order your aloe from Mountain Rose Herbs.  I HATE that sticky feeling aloe gives.  I would rather suffer through a sunburn then deal with the uncomfortableness of burnt skin beneath a sticky layer of aloe.  Like, it’s torture.  MRH’s aloe is light and not sticky at all.  It’s also thin enough to go through a sprayer.

Peppermint Essential Oil simply cools down the skin.  It feels amazing and takes the heat right out!

Lavender Essential Oil is amazing for burns.  It also helps to regenerate damaged skin.  It is calming to a burn and reduces inflammation.

Vitamin E is nourishing and helps replenish the skin.

That’s it, it’s pretty simple but really effective.  Of course my best advice is to not do what I did!  But if you find yourself with a sunburn, this recipe will be your best friend…. at least for a few days!
