It’s high time we had a discussion about Argan oil.  It is a truly amazing and rare oil with a rich history and massive benefits for the skin and hair.  In the past I have found that it is hard to source truly legit argan oil but I’m happy to tell you I’ve found a reputable source and literally compare this oil to liquid gold!

Argan oil has been a well known ingredient in the beauty world thanks to Josie Maran and her argan oil line, sold in Sephora and on QVC.  Her line has become extremely popular and well known but many questions have arose about whether it’s truly natural.  Well, that’s another post but what her line has done is put Argan oil on the map, which is an excellent thing.

Argan oil comes from Morocco.  It is obtained from the Argania Spinosa tree.  It is referred to as “The Tree Of Life” and can live up to 450 years!  Argan oil is extracted from the the kernel in the fruit of the argan tree.  Many women from Morocco make a living using ancient rituals to obtain the most pure argan oil. The argan tree provides food for livestock, nutrition for people as well as income for many families.

Argan oil is very high in Vitamin E.  This is one of the attributes that makes it so desirable as an anti aging oil.  Most of us know, vitamin E is an important antioxidant ingredient that can help neutralize free radicals in our skin.  Argan oil also contains 80% of non saturated fatty acids which are extremely helpful in restoring moisture to the hydro lipid layer of the skin.  Argan oil also contains 0.8% unsaponifiables (a compounds also known as plant sterols or sterolins). Sterolins improve skin metabolism, reduce inflammation and promote great moisture retention.  Another active substance in argan oil is triterpenoids.  It offers skin protection benefits like tissue healing (scars), anti-inflammatory, sun-protective and disinfectant properties.

I know what you’re thinking-why should I buy argan oil that is located half way across the world-is that necessary?  YES.  Unfortunately (as we’ve found with essential oil companies), not all argan oils are obtained through proper methods nor are they pure.  If you are expecting results, then you need to purchase the best quality oil possible.  I believe I have found that in Ayelli.  Shipping is very reasonable, as is the oil.  The quality is off the charts.  The only argan oil I have come in contact with that compares is a tiny bottle my friend bought me from a market in Morocco-and it was tiny-that oil had to get through customs!  The bottle from Ayelli is almost 2 ounces.  It will last forever.  Thanks to the high amount of vitamin E, the shelf life of argan oil is longer then most oils.
