DIY Calendula Eye Balm

DIY Calendula Eye Balm

Last week we learned how easy it is to infuse oil with calendula flowers.  I’ve already made several DIYs with my new calendula infused safflower oil and am excited to share one today!  This DIY is a dupe of Indie Lee’s Calendula Eye Balm.  I adore their products and since we’re mostly DIYers here, this particular product is one to recreate rather then buy due to it’s simple formulation!  Of course, if you don’t like to DIY, you can find it HERE.

Indie Lee calls their calendula balm “a multitasking miracle balm specially designed for the sensitive skin around the eyes. Mango seed butter dramatically diminishes appearance of dark circles, while calendula oil, beeswax, and lavender oil increase skin’s elasticity”.

This DIY is so similar to the original yet so simple to make at home.  I really encourage you, if you haven’t already-make a batch of Calendula Infused Oil.  It is very versatile and I have a few more DIYs where I’ve used it that I will share.  You just can’t beat the anti inflammation action as well as the accelerated healing this herb provides!

This recipe is a simple balm to make.  Basically a balm is a smooth, creamy yet solid product that is made up of oils and beeswax. It contains no water so no preservative is needed.   This recipe makes a little less then 2 ounces and since a little goes a long way-you should share it with someone!  Oh, and I created a label you can print out via Avery template or make and order online at Sticker You!  In case you missed it, read more about Sticker You and get more of my labels HERE.  I would suggest using two 1 ounce glass jars.  You can find a set of 2 cool ones HERE.

In this balm, I included mango butter.  This is the first DIY where I have worked with mango seed butter and I’m super happy with it.  Mango butter has a slight hint of a shea butter scent so if you don’t like the smell of shea butter, mango is the way to go.  It does not smell like mangos and the nut smell is so slight.  What is really great about mango butter is that it penetrates the skin so fast.  It’s cousins, cocoa and shea like to set on top of the skin and just hang out.  I avoid using them in large quantities because I hate to feel greasy.  Mango butter is also high in vitamin C, vitamin A and smooths fine lines and wrinkles.  It’s a great moisturizer and healer as well.  LOVE mango butter!

I also added avocado oil, another extremely moisturizing oil. It contains a good amount of chlorophyll which brightens the skin.  It also contains a large amount of Oleic acid which helps the skin become more permeable-meaning, your skin will suck this eye cream into the lower layers of the epidermis!  Go HERE for some neat info. on all the benefits of squalane but to name a few, squalene revs of blood circulation encouraging skin cells to regenerate and renew.  It is a balancing hydrator and calms the skin from environmental stressors.  Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant and is a proven anti aging tool.  Lavender helps to calm and revive skin.

To Use:

This balm may be used day and/or night after cleansing, toning and moisturizing.  You only need a TINY AMOUNT!!!  Using too much will only result in wasting.  Plus, your hair will get stuck in it, your pillow will be greasy, your makeup will slide off and you’ll be annoyed.  Products that don’t contain water are so effective and pure that it takes a tiny amount to do the job!  More bang for your buck is what I say!

I have been using this eye balm at night.  I use it under my eyes, between my brows and on and above my lips.  I apply it after I’ve cleansed, toned and used a facial oil.  I like to allow time for my facial oil to penetrate before I layer this product on top.  And yes, I take my night time ritual pretty seriously!  You might have caught all my products I keep by my bed in THIS post.

Below is the label. THESE jars are perfect and they have room for a .50-.75 inch tall label across the front.   Because I get all my labels from Sticker You (they are restickable and waterproof) I’m doing some guess work about proper labels.  I believe THESE labels would work and you can go HERE to design and print yourself.   Just save my label and upload it.

DIY Calendula Eye Balm

This eye balm is fun and simple to make and you’ll notice instant hydration and possibly instant smoothing upon using it!  It has a light scent of lavender and the perfect way to end your day!  Be sure to follow my links (in the recipe) for the ingredients.  There are a lot of low quality oils/butters/waxes out there that would make for a pointless DIY.  I choose the highest quality ingredients so we can make the BEST DIYs!
