DIY Chocolate Coffee Mask

DIY Chocolate Coffee Mask

Does your skin need a pick me up?  I got you covered!   This super easy DIY chocolate coffee mask will not only exfoliate your skin, it will nourish and brighten as well.  There’s a lot of bang for your buck with this easy DIY mask!

Why Each Ingredient Works:

Raw Cacao Powder is full of antioxidants and is highly anti inflammatory!  It is rich in minerals like iron, selenium, copper, zinc and manganese.  Raw cacao is different from cocoa in that it has not been processed with high heat which can strip it of it’s anti aging and health benefits.  This is why we have to use Cacao and not Cocoa powder.  Cacao can also be added to smoothies for loads of benefits for the body too!  I like to throw in a banana with cacao powder because it sweetens and thickens!  Raw cacao in a mask can help relieve puffiness and reduce redness.  It also helps reverse the signs of aging by protecting and healing damaged skin cells!

Coffee grounds are a great physical exfoliator.  Caffeine is awesome for the skin but I’m not convinced that coffee grounds in this mask will deliver many benefits besides helping remove the top, dead layer of skin.  Exfoliation in itself is one of the most powerful things you can do to improve your skin.  When dead skin cells layer on top of new skin cells, your skin can get congested and look dull.  Did you know that dead skin cells can also form wrinkles?  By staying on top of removing the dead skin, you can reduce premature wrinkles!  Read all about exfoliation HERE.

Bentonite Clay is a powerful detoxer!  Wait, is detoxer a word?  It should be with a picture of bentonite clay in it’s definition!  Not only does it soak up impurities like a sponge, it also pulls blood flow to the surface of the skin which helps with cell turnover and gives the skin a thriving, healthier look.  Blood flow is so important for healing and renewing skin cells as well as bringing a glow to the surface of the skin!

Aloe Vera Gel is fabulous at healing and soothing the skin.  It is a water based, super light moisturizer that delivers hydration to the skin.  Aloe is a great additive to masks and serums because it absorbs quickly and can actually tighten the skin.  Plus, organic, cold pressed aloe is actually very affordable.  Read all about the benefits of aloe vera HERE.  If you have an aloe plant, feel free to use it but it could be very hard to mix with the other ingredients.

DIY Chocolate Coffee Mask:

  • 1 tbsp. Raw Cacao Powder (find it HERE)
  • 1 tbsp. Bentonite Clay (find it HERE)
  • 1 tsp. Fresh Coffee Grounds
  • 1-3 tbsp. Aloe Vera Gel(find it HERE) The amount you add depends on the consistency you prefer and the moisture your skin needs.  I add just enough to make a pliable paste.

*You can skip the aloe and use a hydrosol or even water if you prefer.

If you’d like a less powerful clay, kaolin clay is a great option.

**Be sure to not use metal utensils when working with bentonite clay.  Metal actually deactivates bentonite clay, leaving it less powerful.**

To Use:

  1. Apply a layer of mask over the face and neck.
  2. Leave on the skin for 10-15 minutes.  Once the clay starts to stiffen, it’s time to remove the mask.
  3. Using warm water, gently remove the mask in a circular motion.
  4. Follow up with a toner and cleanser.

I hope you enjoyed today’s DIY chocolate coffee mask!  I really love this mask for all that it does.  It’s kind of a jack of all trades!  It’s great for all skin types and is definitely a multi purpose mask.

Be warned-this mask might give you mocha latte cravings!  Have you seen my re-make of Starbuck’s Mocha Frap?  Find it HERE!
