Homemade Belly Oil for Scars & Stretch Marks

Homemade Belly Oil for stretch marks and scars

Today I’m sharing a recipe for a homemade belly oil for stretch marks and scars. This antioxidant packed belly oil is going to work hard to protect your skin from stretch marks as well as fade the appearance of current stretch marks and wounds. This homemade recipe is quick and easy to make yet filled with natural, plant based oils that have been scientifically tested to reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

A while ago I shared a recipe for belly butter.  It was full of “food” for a stretched out tummy.  This recipe will be similar but instead of a buttery consistency, we’re going to make an oil that takes minutes to make with no heat required. In this recipe, I’ve focused on oils that will do more to help current conditions as well as prevent new scars and marks.

The Best Oils for Fading & Preventing Stretch Marks and Scars:

Rosehip Seed Oil:

Rosehip Seed Oil is a highly effective ingredients in this recipe.  It has the ability to heal and lighten stretch marks and scars. Rosehip Seed Oil is considered one of the best carrier oils for preventing and/or reducing stretch marks. Rosehip Seed Oil is extremely moisturizing. Due to its natural content of trans-retinoic acids and a complex system of unsaturated essential fatty acids, rosehip seed oil firms the skin, removes stretch marks, and keeps the skin well hydrated. It also contains many minerals that help the skin regain elasticity.

Rosehip oil may also help reduce the appearance of scarring. One study revealed that linoleic acid can help reduce hyperpigmentation in certain scars. If you have flat, dark-colored scars left over from old acne breakouts, then rosehip could help.

This study, focused on a product that contained vitamin E and rosehip oil, found that they significantly reduced women’s stretch marks.

Jojoba Oil:

Jojoba oil restores the elasticity of the skin. Massaging it regularly will make your stretch marks disappear slowly. Jojoba oil works tirelessly to fade the appearance of scars and stretch marks and nurture the growth of healthy new cells.

Pomegranate Seed Oil:

Pomegranate Seed Oil is very high in antioxidants such as the vitamin C which helps reduce cellular damage in your body. When applied to the skin of mice antioxidants helped decrease the incidence of age spots and wrinkles. Pomegranate’s oil is effective for scarring because it increases cell regeneration.

Vitamin E Oil:

Vitamin E oil can be used to prevent stretch marks as well as to get rid of existing ones. It is full of vitamins A and E which encourages elasticity of the skin. As the skin becomes more elastic, it can be stretched more easily.  Vitamin E can be found in many skin care products due to it’s anti aging and regenerative capabilities.

Neroli Essential Oil:

Neroli Essential Oil is a powerful oil that helps reduce the appearance of stretch marks and scars.  It is cicatrisant which means it has anti scarring properties.  Neroli oil also stimulates circulation and encourages cell regeneration! research shows that it has antioxidant effects, which can help cells regenerate, making skin heal. Neroli is very expensive and is optional in this recipe.

Lavender Essential Oil:

Lavender Essential Oil is extremely healing and calming and can nourishes broken, cracked skin. lavender has not been shown to directly improve stretch marks, but it may have some benefits. A 2016 study showed that it can increase collagen production and helps form new connective tissues.

Helichrysum Essential Oil:

Helichrysum essential oil contains an anti-inflammatory substance called arzanol, which plays a part in healing wounds. It also has antioxidant properties that can help to prevent scarring by regenerating new cells and preventing the accumulation of free radicals. This oil is also said to increase collagen production.

Frankincense Essential Oil:

Frankincense has been shown to be helpful with regenerating damaged skin cells and reducing the appearance of scaring.

Continue Use of Homemade Belly Oil After Birth!!

You will want to take it to the hospital and continue your day and night routine for weeks postpartum.  Stretch marks can form after you’ve given birth due to the extreme change to your skin!  Don’t forget to apply this oil to your chest as well-breast tissue will go through changes on an hourly basis in the beginning months of nursing!

This oil is safe to use on a c-section scar and should be used on an incision to reduce scarring. Because I have not had a c-section or dealt with a fresh scar, I can not say if this oil might sting. Use it slowly and with great caution.

If you are not pregnant and trying to improve your current stretch marks, you can use your oil once a day.  Please note that while this concoction is very potent, some people take weeks and even months to see results.  Everyone is different, so don’t give up!  Damaged skin needs extra nourishment to heal-your skin will feel the difference immediately.

As women, our bodies were meant to stretch.  When stretch marks form, these little lines should be our badges of honor.  After all, we have the ability to grow life inside our body!  Our society strives for physical perfection and that makes it so hard for women.  From one woman to another-whatever imperfection you are fighting, remember to LOVE yourself!
