Thieves Balm Recipe

Thieves Balm RecipeShield Blend Essential Oil a.k.a Thieves is my most used essential oil in the colder seasons. I find it incredibly helpful for detoxing the air, warding off airborne viruses and bacteria as well as soothing throat pain. I don’t hear many essential oil enthusiast talk about it’s ability to be applied to the throat and ease discomfort so I thought it was time I shared my Thieves balm recipe.

First, if you aren’t familiar with Thieves, let me explain.

Thieves is a blend of rosemary, cinnamon, eucalyptus, lemon and clove essential oils. This particular combination is extremely efficient at killing germs. In fact, there are quite a few studies as well as a very informative post on the effectiveness of Thieves blend.

When diffused it has been known to rid the air of airborne pathogens and when applied it has been known to boost immunity. Most essential oil companies have their version of the blend. Young Living’s Thieves, is the most well known. However, I like to use Mountain Rose Herb’s version, Shield. I’ve also created a Thieves blend recipe.

I use this balm for several purposes but the most important is for my throat. A few years ago I got a terrible bug that gave me a painful sore throat among other things. After I recovered, I kept getting a hint that that illness was trying to make a comeback.

You know how you get that panicky feeling that you’re about to get sick. I will do anything to keep an illness from coming on. I started applying Shield directly to my throat where I could feel the pain. It was typically on one side or the other. I used the blend straight and did experience a burning sensation on my skin. I don’t recommend you try this.

No joke-I never got that illness again and each time I got the pain and applied the balm, I woke up right as rain.

This was when I decided to make a balm so that I had the topical application ready to go anytime I felt the pain coming on.

Since then, I have remade the balm several times. I use it on my daughters any time they feel a throat ache coming on. Because it is properly diluted in a balm, I apply it to their throats, chest and bottoms of their feet.
