DIY Cedarwood Clay Mask for Men

Today, I’m sharing a DIY clay mask I formulated that is geared more towards men.  “Men’s Skincare” is so often non existent but yet most men are so much harder on their skin then women.  Not only are men typically using harsh soap to cleanse their skin (if they cleanse at all), they are also shaving their face!  When you think about it, it is actually just as important for men to put some thought into their skin care routine as women.

This mask is great for large pores, congested skin and can help with anti aging as well. It is best for oilier skin types.   This recipe is not really for a man who has dryer skin but it’s easy to tweak to address dry skin as well.

DIY Clay Mask Ingredients:

I chose Atlas Cedarwood Essential Oil because it is great for eczema and dryness.  It is also antiseptic and anti fungal and can help with acne!  Not to mention it smells manly!  I love the smell of cedarwood.   I talked a lot about cedarwood oil HERE because it’s also great to encourage hair regrowth and remedies scalp issues!

Bentonite Clay is amazing for detoxing.  Clays actually pull impurities out of the pores!  Remember, when using bentonite clay, never use metal utensils because metal can deactivate bentonite clay. I forgot this as I was experimenting and shooting this mask and ended up remaking it with plastic measuring spoons.   Bentonite actually has a negative electric charge which bonds to what is in your pores in the same way a magnet works.  It has been known to help shrink the appearance of pores.  It can be used internally for detox as well.

  • 1/2 TBSP. Bentonite Clay (find it HERE)
  • 2 tsp. Apple Cider Vinegar (find it HERE)
  • 1 tsp. Aloe Vera Gel (find it HERE)
  • 2 drops Atlas Cedarwood Essential Oil (find it HERE)

Directions:

  1. Mix all ingredients until a paste is formed.  This can be a bit difficult with bentonite clay.
  2. Apply the mask to the skin.  You can use it in areas of need or all over.
  3. Leave on for 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the mask with cool water and follow up with a facial oil like THIS one.

**Replenishing the skin with some type of moisture is very important after using this mask.  If you don’t use facial oils or lotions, feel free to apply aloe vera gel after the mask.**

WARNING: Clay brings A LOT of blood flow to the surface of the skin.  It is normal to experience warm, red skin for 20 minutes-1 hour after using this mask.  This is a good thing!!  Blood flow encourages healing and renewing!

If you’re needing a more nourishing mask I suggest replacing the apple cider vinegar with 3 tsp. of aloe vera gel.  Aloe will replenish the skin.  If more moisturizing is needed, you could add a 1/2 tsp. of Vitamin E oil.

Of course, women can use this mask as well!  Especially if you are oily and dealing with congestion.
